Hanging around the house

Mmm... candy... The ghosts are up again this year they were almost replaced with new ones but I ran out of time to make them and the old ghosts went up again. I think they are running on 9 years old and holding up pretty good. This year I talked Mr. Hygiene into rigging up a pulley system so we could raise and lower them with out the usual tossing of the tennis ball over the high branch that could take over a hour some years. I have to have them spaced just right you know, cant have them hanging just anywhere. Now I have nice rings to clip them onto and maybe this Christmas we might find something to hang there as well. Thanks Mr. Hygiene for climbing the tall tall ladder when you don't like heights.

Lights out!

Well it is that time of the year, the lights have to come down. I would like to leave them up all year round but with the sprinkler system kicking on two times a week it is hard to keep the circuit from popping when water gets in the lights. I know it should not do that but it does.

Last year when we left the house when we came back late the sprinkler system had already ran for the night and popped the circuit and it is on the same one as the garage door. Well I did not bring my house key and we could not get into the house... Long story short we learned our lesson.

Anywayyy... I am sad to see the lights down.

Bathroom Lighting

I found a shade that I like in Mary Engelbret's Home Companion, now I want to replace all the fixtures in our bathroom. I thought I would share some that I found at REJUVENATION and see what you think. I like the finish on this one. It matches that hardware on all our doors in our house and the lighting fixtures in the dining room and entry. I really like this one and I think it is the most classic.

I love the hardware on this one. The green is fun and would tie in nice with all the greens in my bathroom. I think it would be the most fun and would make me smile when I would look at it. Yep I am that dorky.

This would be what we would put over each sink, if the greens match. If not I would just get white. Poor Stacy He has no idea he will be installing new light fixtures soon. We will keep him in the dark a little longer. No lighting pun intended.

The perfect shade

It took over 4 years to find the perfect shade for this lamp. I found it at a thrift store when we lived in Nebraska. It was hard to find a shade for it that was the right color, shape, size and price. Finally at a store I love, Anthropologie had the one I wanted, and on clearance. Stacy re-wired the base today and now we have light.

Barkcloth

This is one of the finds from yesterday. The lovely ladies with the hats had some wonderful things. I still need to wash this one more time, Borax should get out the yellowing from age. I will make some curtains for our sun porch also known as Pearls room.

Home is where the Art is

I finished my triangle banner finally. Wow! that took longer than I thought it would. I enjoyed every minute of making it except for the 4 times I ripped out the border on the first one I made and the 3 times I re-beaded one of the circles. I wish you could see the colors in person the beads just don't translate well in photos and you can not get the true colors to come through on the computer screen. The colors are a little richer looking and the sheen on the silk is a lovely addition to the feel of the banner, you just cant see that in a photo.

I am waiting to see how all the banners from the Triangle Banner Swap hosted by The Amazing Sara turn out. I have been watching their progress and love all the different triangles being made. I will love to see them all finished and I have gotten so much inspiration from seeing all the creativity being shared on the blog.

Project~IKEA

Stacy and Paige had a project today. A new chandelier from IKEA to add light to Paige's room. It always has been a dark room, there is not an overhead light in the center of the room like the rest of the house. I wanted to get this for her before christmas but it was sold out every time I went. For $17.00 I can understand why. Stacy was complaining that we were just going to hang it without finding the stud to hang it from. Paige is reacting in this photo from his ranting.

Tape, Tape and more Tape

We finally had a few down minutes where we felt like being productive. We wanted to add stripes or something to the walls of Paige's room but have put it off for a few months. Well I started to tape then thought Paige might think it was fun, I really worked hard at selling it as a fun thing to do and it worked. I got her to do most of the taping.

Then Stacy got home and it became a whole family project.

Even Crusty got involved. Well at least we got her tail involved with the taping part.

We got it done fast not much to paint really. The bad thing was the tape did not stick well and we had a lot of paint bleeding under the tape onto the wall where we did not want it. We were puzzled because we have done this before with great results. Oh well, I guess we will touch it up and call it a day...or leave it and call it rustic.

Cast off update

So how long did this take? Toooo long! I finished it a week or so ago. Love the fabric and the paint job turned out great. Gotta love it when you score a great castoff. (one word or two?)

5 years later...

We have had this poster for over 5 years. I bought it at a church sale in Omaha with the intentions of framing it and putting it up in our Knotty Pine basement. We put it in a frame tonight and Mr. Hygiene hung it for me in the office. Thanks Stacy!

No, not this chair either...

We have kicked her off the black chair. We have kicked her off the couch. I don't understand why she would think this chair would be different. On a different note, I am getting a slipcover made for the couch out of the fabric you see draped over the chair and under the dog. I love this dog.

Molding up!

We have been trying to get Paiges room finished and we finally have the molding up. Stacys friend Jerry come over and helped him out last weekend and we are so glad to have this part of the room out of the way.

Update for Heidi #1

Here it is Heidi. This is the case that we just put up in the office. It is an old Mechanics case that I have had for years and years. We thought would be a good place to put Stacys Grandpa Al's old fishing stuff.

We also have "Al" the Deer head that Stacys Grandpa Al shot back in the 50's on a wall in the office.

Update for Heidi #2

This chair was a cast off that we painted semi gloss black. The drapes are shower curtins that I found on clearance.

I found some great fabirc to recover the seat of the chair. We are still working on changing the guest room into an office/lounge for Paige. I still have a lot of work to do in this room but Heidi keeps nagging for photos

Fire Hot in FLorida

Well where to begin...Paige wanted to bake biscuts for breakfast. Then the fire truck came.

Lessons learned
1. Check oven before you turn it on.
2. Never put anything flammalbe in the oven.
3. Make sure your house is always clean for unexpected guests.
